How to Center Align Task Bar Icons in Windows 7

Labels: ,

Windows 7 Taskbar is another new feature offered in Windows 7 that allows users to manage and control their desktop and software applications better. By default, all the program icons are aligned left on the Windows 7 Taskbar, adjacent to the Start icon. The icons are well arranged in the Taskbar for easy viewing. If, however, users prefer a change from the default left alignment or want to create a different look, they can center align the Taskbar icons instead.

To center align the Taskbar icons, users can follow the steps below:

1. Create an empty folder on the Windows desktop or in My Document folder and give a name to the folder, e.g. ABC in this case;

2. Right Click the taskbar. On the Menu prompted, uncheck the item “Lock The Taskbar”;

3. Right Click the taskbar again. On the Menu prompted, select Toolbar -> New Toolbar.

4. Users will be required to make selection on folder. Users need to locate and select the folder created in Step 1 earlier.

5. Users can right click on the new toolbar created (ABC in this case). Uncheck the item “Show Text” and “Show Title”

6. Users now can drag the dotted separator appearing on the Taskbar to the left side, located in between the Start icon and Taskbar icons. Once users release the mouse, users will see the Taskbar Icons neatly center aligned.

7. To reinstate to its original setting, users just need to right click the new toolbar (ABC Toolbar in this case) and choose close. In the prompted message, users just to click OK to proceed to close it.

VESA Announced DisplayPort v1.2 Specification For High Resolution 3D Display

Labels: ,

We have mentioned about HDMI v1.4 specification revision earlier, now seems that its rival’s standard, DisplayPort has reached a new upgrade to v1.2 following an announcement by VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) recently. The new DisplayPort v1.2 specification allows a much higher pixel resolution of up to 3840 x 2400 on top of other new enhancements suitable for both PC and consumer electronics market.

Besides capable to scale up to 3840 x 2400 at 60Hz, the standard is ready to support 2560 x 1600 pixels 3D Display running at 120Hz. This is achievable with data transmission rate of 21.6Gbps doubling from its previous 1.1a version (at 10.8Gbps), allowing much higher resolution, color depths, multi-streaming on multiple displays support and eventually greater 3D display capability on future display products. That is not all, the new specification increases the AUX channel bandwidth from previous 1Mbps to 720Mbps, enabling both USB 2.0 and Ethernet data flow in bi-directional and high speed transmission. Other enhancements include High Definition audio formats such as DTS HD, Dolby MAT, Blu-Ray and DRA standard with audio copy protection support as well as readiness to cater for full HD 3D Stereoscopic display with multiple transmission format and display capabilities.

Best thing is, the new specification is backward compatible with existing DisplayPort v1.1a in hardware connectors’ design and pin-out so rest assured that your existing system will still workable without the need of major upgrade.

Dimension uPrint Plus For Professional Designer 3D Printing

Labels: ,

$20,000 for a printer might sound ridiculously expensive for you. However, if you are a professional designer or planner and need to do 3D printing from time to time, the updated version of Dimension uPrint Plus from Stratasys perhaps will fit your purpose and do the job for you.

Dimension uPrint Plus has shown significant improvements in terms of features compared to its predecessor. Similar to Dimension uPrint Personal, Dimension uPrint Plus has a small footprint for true desktop use, 25 x 26 in (635 x 660 mm). Comparatively, uPrint Plus is slightly bigger (about 33%) and faster than uPrint. The updated version of the 3D printer features two support-material enhancements that reduce material consumption and modeling time. The first, Smart Supports, is a software enhancement
that reduces material usage by 40 percent, cutting costs. The second, SR-30, is an improved soluble support material that dissolves 69 percent faster, to speed up the modeling process. Smart Supports is available for both uPrint and uPrint Plus.

The 3D printer can print in eight color Stratasys ABSplus material (red, blue, olive, black, dark gray, nectarine, fluorescent yellow, and ivory) and offers two resolution settings – 0.010 in (0.254 mm) and 0.013 in (0.330 mm) for more printing options.

“When the uPrint was introduced one year ago, it quickly became the best-selling 3D printer worldwide, with 1,000 units sold in the first 9 months,” says Dimension Product Manager Mary Stanley. “Based on its success and customer requests for expanded features, the uPrint Plus was created. Now designers, engineers and architects have expanded options for building models based on proven FDM technology.”

Google and T-Mobile Investigate on Nexus One Poor 3G Network Issue

Labels: ,

Not long after the release of Google’s famous Nexus One Android 2.1 based smartphone, some consumers have started to initiate complaints with related to its poor reception of 3G network coverage under T-Mobile subscription, If you recall, when iPhone 3G was launched initially under AT&T, similar complaints were received but instead of finger pointing to service provider, it is believed that current situation is different from previous and likelihood that it could be due to firmware issue on the device itself.

The complaints started when Nexus One’s users were unable to get a similar signal strength at the same location which triggered more questions if the symptom is due to overloaded 3G network with increasing subscribers’ usages. Both Google and T-Mobile have acknowledged the complaints and have started preliminary investigation by probing consumers’ on actual symptom if they have seen the 3G line drop, totally no line or can it be fixed by firmware upgrade and etc. Meanwhile, T-Mobile is seeking feedback from its subscribers to try with other 3G mobile phone for side by side coverage result comparison. Apparently, initial results were gathered and some even claimed that an older generation HTC smartphone has managed to sustain full bar coverage while Nexus One only able to get half of them, indicating the high possibility that it could be firmware issue instead of network
coverage.

However, nothing is firm now and hopefully Google and T-Mobile will able to disclose further investigation results with appropriate firmware fix without the need of major repair or system upgrade.
